The public information subject files - Civil War and Reconstruction files consist of records collected and organized by Archives staff to document the Civil War and Reconstruction era and its importance to Alabama's history. Included in the files are correspondence, newspaper clippings, magazines, transcripts of original documents, cemetery records and other related materials that may be used for reference purposes. The file contains biographical sketches of prominent individuals associated with the time period, transcripts of personal narratives of soldiers, and information on the following subjects: arms and arsenals, campaigns and battles, cemeteries, flags, hospitals and medical care, prisons and prisoners, veterans and patriotic organizations and the role of women. The bulk of the collection relates to the Civil War, though it also includes information on the Reconstruction years.
